Thursday and Friday are by appointment only.

A mailbox has been set up outside the North entrance to the Steele County Courthouse that has paper applications for any assistance that may be needed. As always, we encourage you to apply online at the ND Department of Human Services Website.

Overview
Agassiz Valley Social Services Zone is a county government division designated by state law to provide a variety of human service programs to assist and support the vulnerable and poor. Programming/services offered by this agency are administered in conjunction with state and federal agencies, particularly the North Dakota Department of Human Services. There are four core program areas which include:

Governing Structure
Agassiz Valley Human Service Zone has a tiered administrative structure. The County director is responsible for overseeing overall agency operations, personnel, fiscal planning/management and day-to-day operations. The director reports to the Agassiz Valley Human Service Zone Board, which provides fiscal and advisory oversight.
The board and agency are also accountable to the Traill County and Steele County Commissions. Traill County serves as the fiscal agent for the Agassiz Valley Human Service Zone. The North Dakota Department of Human Services serves as a regulatory, fiscal, technical assistance and monitoring agent for all county social service agencies in North Dakota. Funding is provided by the North Dakota Department of Human Services to administer the Agassiz Valley Human Service Zone originate with state and federal funds.
Personnel
Agassiz Valley Human Service Zone currently employs an array of staff members to meet local needs. Personnel include a management team, social service case managers, eligibility specialists, direct care specialists, family service specialists, human service aides, and administrative staff.
Budget
The estimated value of social services-related benefits provided to Traill and Steele County citizens annually is over $16,500,000. Therefore, for every $1 of dollars invested, nearly $11 was returned in direct service value to our local citizens.
